After many years working in the world of communications and marketing, Richard Choate turned to what has become his passion – working in the field of addiction.
Since 2001, Richard has worked in various areas of the field including Relapse Prevention, treatment strategies for Health Care Professionals, Recovery Management (including the creation and management of the Connection program through Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation), the development of behavioral-based day treatment programs, and medication-assisted treatment programs for opioid addicts aged 18 to 21.
He is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and has a CADC II. He holds an MA in Human Development. He is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and has taught Motivational Interviewing and Recovery Management at the graduate level of both St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies. Additionally, he presented nearly 30 workshops on “Preventing Spiritual, Emotional and Chemical Relapse” and is a favored speaker on the topic of addiction and recovery.
Richard currently serves on the Board of Governors of Cascades Theatrical Company in Bend, Oregon.
